It is installed in the Famalicão Municipal Swimming Pools the first Ultraviolet Radiation Monitoring Panel that alerts the public, particularly the ones that frequent the exterior municipal swimming pools, that open in the 1st of June, for the ultraviolet radiation indexes that Famalicão is being subjected to every moment.
With this real-time information, the City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão hopes to make famalicenses aware of the care they should take to avoid health problems associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation by taking the necessary protective precautions.
The panel is installed in the garden of that sports equipment complex, in a central area of the city, and its information can be seen by passers-by circulating along Avenida de França. The information will also soon be available online through the municipal information platforms.
The initiative, developed by the Public Health Department, falls under Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 "Quality Health", in a disease prevention logic, and under SDG 11 "Sustainable Cities and Communities", in a perspective of measuring radiation values for taking intervention measures, if necessary, when the values enter the danger register.
